•The second image above on your right shows the Different Portions of the Brush Recolored using a gradient layer style.

•The first image above on your left shows you the Recolored Version in Index mode when trying to color it red.
•The second image above on your right shows you the Recolored Version in RGB mode using different colors by selecting the magic wand for each different area
and then using your paint bucket tool fill your selection with a color or a pattern.
